Born on October 8, 1965, in Somanya, he has a professional background in accounting and finance. Nyakotey holds a Commonwealth Executive MBA in Management, obtained in 2010.
Before entering politics, he worked as an Accounts and Financial Officer at Total Petroleum Ghana Ltd. Nyakotey was elected to the Ghanaian Parliament in 2020, where he has been active in various committees, including the Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee
